The Incredible Power of Love
At the beginning of every new year, I always feel the need to listen to myself carefully. I like to not only start with good intentions written in my diary, but I like to walk through all year in the good direction. Not to waste any moment by doing something I am not aware of, or sure I do the right thing.
But, of course, there are things that come our way, which challenge us. They put us in a situation, when we are not sure, what the right decision is? What should we do?
And then, more than ever, it’s so important to put our mind away and let decide our heart, instinct, do what simply feels like the only “right” thing to do at the moment, despite not knowing how we will exactly manage it.
One of these situations came our way a few days ago.
New Year is testing us. It is giving us the opportunity to practice and deepen the connection with our hearts, to let our hearts guide us, to show us its incredible greatness, the power of love, of which we are not fully aware until the moment, when we simply do something, because our heart would not allow us to act differently.
It was early evening and we were returning through the windy narrow streets of the centre of the town from a walk. I usually choose the road around the sea, because I love to hear its sound as often as I can, and I also love to watch the lighthouse on the top of the cliff, which in darkness seems as if it is flying in the sky. The road is lined with family houses on the other side, but they are mostly uninhabited during the winter season. Some of them come alive for a few weeks during summer, some of them stay empty all year long. Who knows what their story is?
There are so many stories on every step. Houses, people, trees… cats, for instance…
It was really cold, winter has finally arrived to the island and we were looking forward for a mug of scented mulled wine, which we were going to prepare as a bonus for our walk back at home. But our intention was a little delayed by meeting one cat.
I love cats. And I love that cats are everywhere here. Each place has its own cat inhabitants. We know many of them and I always look forward for spending a few minutes by stroking them, enjoying their warm company.
That evening, we met one special cat. We know it for almost all the period we live in this area, which can be something close to two years. This cat looks like from a cartoon or more like an Alien. It’s different from other cats. Someone may say, it looks a little ugly. But anytime I see it, I feel happy, cheerful. For us, it is special. And beautiful. And not only one time I was thinking, how lovely would it be, if we could take it home with us. But I knew that would not be possible for more reasons, nor good for the cat, because cats are fixed to their places and all.
We haven’t seen this cat for a long time and this time it was so skinny it could barely walk and it was so sick. I know it is a cat from the street, and people are nice to street cats here, they give them food, water… They care… But still, this was too much. It was too much for this cat to cope on its own. So we took it home. Despite all the reasons we shouldn’t or couldn’t, we wrapped it in a shawl and carried it home.
I never did such a thing. But living on this island has deepened, over the years, my compassion. Both of us, me and my partner, were surprised of our act, but at the same time we knew, there was no other solution. It would have died if we would leave it there.
When we arrived home, we transformed a fruit crate, which served us as a table for magazines, with a sweater and a scarf into a cat bed. We gave it water and food, it was so hungry! And when the cat seemed to be ok enough to start recharging its powers by sleeping, then finally, we prepared ourselves a double portion of mulled wine, sat with it on the terrace and observed this unexpected event, knowing this was crazy, but it was the only thing what could have been done.
Now, it’s fourth day and the cat is getting better and better. It was sleeping for two days. It is calm and incredibly grateful. I can see it in its eyes. I wish, humans would take more inspiration from the animals.
We don’t exactly know yet, how it will all continue, we only know now, the cat needs to get back its power. And we can help with that.
The rest of the answers?
They will come in the right time. I am sure about it.
The most important, always, is to do things that we feel are right. To let love and heart guide our decisions and our steps. Every day, all year. And it’s not only a new year resolution, it is a universal law that we should all follow throughout our lives.
So, here’s to that! And to the most special cat’s health!
With love,
k.
Update: Although I don't want to, I feel obliged to write that despite our best intentions and efforts, the cat left on the tenth day after we brought her to us. I am writing this after a long time, when my feelings have settled down. We wanted to prevent something, but in the end life arranged it as planned. And even though I thought it would turn out completely differently, I think that it was meant to be, that this special creature chose us to spend hers last days with us... Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I believe that your journey continues in the best cat world in Heaven or again on Earth. Love, K.
