All the Good Things We Have But Don't See
Yesterday we took a little trip to a place nearby. In fact, everything is "nearby" on this island.
When I first came here, I often wondered how anyone could really live here? This island is so small! Despite my initial thoughts and questions, I know that since I started this experiment of living here, I have learned, or better yet, been reminded of so many important things.
This morning, as I was enjoying my morning coffee with the birds singing in the background, my eyes fell on the cover of the book we bought yesterday.
There is a very special bookstore that we visited yesterday. This place is like some magical door to another realm. But that often happens in real bookstores, those places run by people who really love books. You feel as if all the stories are somehow speaking to you, wanting you to open them and get lost (or found) on their pages for a few moments at least.
This is because we live very simply at the moment and I have actually realized that the only shop I go to is the local supermarket for groceries and things we need at home. I rarely enter another store. I don't need more things right now. We spend time living, apart from creating, cooking and more, but all of that is actually part of life, too.
On the cover of the book is a little girl happily running along the beach and smiling. The book was the last one my partner opened, we were almost leaving because we kind of got carried away with all the wonderful possibilities of entering different worlds through the pages... But somehow it got the best of me after a while, I felt like I needed go outside and get some air.
When we entered, I felt like I would like to buy and take home half of the store... So much inspiration, so many interesting places to visit through the eyes of the authors... I was so tempted by the magically elaborate journals because I need one special for one new idea. But at the end I felt like just leaving and continue walking, which was our original goal.
My partner was right at the door opening a book which is now on our table. It was right there at the entrance. It was the first thing we saw when we entered, and it ended up going home with us.
And I came to this conclusion this morning, because this book is, I think, the easiest of all the others that we both leafed through in the temptation to take home with us. It's called "Living!" (by Sergio Bambarén) and the cover says it all. It's like reading my own words and thoughts.
We all already have everything. When we are kids, we know and do what we love, we are naturally happy and cheerful, we are not afraid to show our feelings, we are not afraid to love and believe in dreams. When we grow up, we slowly forget, let ourselves be caught and start searching... happiness, love, fulfillment in different ways... Someone will remain trapped, but someone will come as if by making a circle to the beginning to realize that the most important thing we all got when we entered this Life.
Like yesterday, this book was ready for us right at the entrance, but we needed to make a full circle to really see it and bring it home, even though we already know what is written on its pages, because this is how we actually live. But there are never too many kind words and reminders of how to use all the real treasures we have at hand and in our hearts and live with joy, smiling face, lightness and do what we love.
And so, to happy living in the truest sense of the word!
Love,
K.
