Where the Magic Happens
The days after Easter resemble the atmosphere at the beginning of January. Easter means a big event on the island, which is why every year they attract a lot of tourists like bees to a blooming meadow.
The island suddenly comes alive. The streets will be colored by the clothes of the visitors, who think that it must be summer by the sea, and so they arrange themselves accordingly. It's quite funny to observe their confused, stone-cold faces when we pass each other on the promenade around the sea in the evening - me in a winter jacket, them in short sleeves and shorts, with question marks in their eyes, if the climate is really changing all over the globe or if they got the date on the calendar wrong.
And so, with the increasing traffic in places that until now I had only to myself and could draw inspiration from them at sunsets and just enjoy their magical atmosphere with the sounds of the sea or silence, it naturally drives me on, to discover new pearls on an island that appears as an insignificant dot on the map, but it always convinces me again that…
… it is not how something appears, but how someone wants to see and use it that matters.
I have one (among many others) favorite place here, but because you have to climb a hill to get to it, I visit it now and then.
And there is no better time than this period to move the goal of my walks a little further and a little higher, before the sun starts working full time and will rather inspire me to run down to the sea, which is a few minutes' walk from the house, and let it color my winter-bleached skin and enjoy the view of the glistening sea surface and many other treasures.
And also, because the places that are high and from which I can observe the wide space from a literal bird's eye perspective always seem to me to directly encourage me to celebrate the beginning of a new journey on them, to send a request to that limitless space for support in a new voyage, opening the door to a big dream, whatever that may be. And since I'm opening one such imaginary door in my life, it needed a toast right there, up there, close to the stars, where everything seems (and is) possible.
In addition to a winter jacket over my forearms, a bottle of water, a bar of chocolate and my wish, I brought my partner on my trip with special meaning, a witness and accomplice of my steps that are intertwined with his. We picked up a small bottle of Prosecco as we headed out for a toast at a small family run shop that also opened with Easter.
We arrived at the place ahead of schedule. The sun still had half an hour before it bowed before us and let itself be applauded with the last ray disappearing over the horizon. The energy of the place immediately embraced me like some good acquaintance or even better like some wise Master. An automatic smile settled on my face as we both sat down on a large rock, set into the ground so conveniently that it serves as a natural bench. And we stayed just in silence.
In a few minutes, three strangers appeared behind us and with a quiet "Hi" they also entered the auditorium. They wiggled on the spot with enthusiasm for a while, and then they too sat down on the second stone, and the older man on the place I had left for him, while I sat a little higher, on our stone bench.
We didn't have to say or explain anything, for the next twenty minutes we all watched the sun slowly descend towards the horizon in sacred silence. We didn't know each other, and yet I had the feeling that I was there with good friends.
How little is enough, sometimes words are not even needed, for people to understand each other and experience something spectacular and at the same time so natural together.
After the sun set down into the sea we automatically clapped and then we exchanged some words, the chocolate we brought and then they said goodbye to go down for dinner and thanked us for the lovely time together that was just as special to us. And I perceived the whole thing as a magical sign - three strangers as Angels for my wish, which is about sharing with others. Sharing and inspiring what opens the eyes and heart, what makes us happy in the most natural way. In short, it couldn't have been better.
When we said our goodbyes we sat back on the rock and let the feelings die down and that's when my partner saw a dolphin! Right below us, just off the cliff, which we had never experienced before. It's not common to see dolphins frolicking off the coast here. And then another and another, there was a whole flock of them! They floated gracefully above the surface, just their movement and knowing their presence is magical.
We started calling our new acquaintances, who were already in the started car some distance from us and were just leaving for the road.
They returned and together we watched a pod of dolphins down below us for a few more minutes greeting us and wishing us all the best in our journeys and dreams and sending the message that life is magical, magical things happen when we ask them to, when we follow the heart, when we are open and humbly share with others.
Then, wherever you are, whether it's Easter or Christmas or any other day of the year, an invisible door opens before you leading to a world where love and the heart rule and where the magic happens.
Love, K.
